At St Mary’s we have a very enthusiastic and friendly group of people of all ages who enjoy reading. The discussion is very relaxed – we enjoy sharing our thoughts about our current book in a very informal setting.
The meetings are held approximately every two months on dates to be agreed by the members at each meeting. We decide at each meeting what we would like to read next. Meetings are usually held in our own homes. The choice of books is very varied from the classics, modern fiction, Booker Prizewinning books and the occasional non fiction book. These are some of the books we have enjoyed over the past year:
The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store – James McBride
Gabriel’s Moon – William Boyd
The Social Graces – Renee Rosen
Orbital – Samantha Harvey
Towards the End of the Morning – Michael Frayn
The Marriage Portrait – Maggie O’Farrell
The House of Doors – Tan Twang Eng
If you enjoy reading why not join us? You are welcome, even if you have not read the book. Just come along and join in – the discussion is often wide ranging as we discuss topics raised in our books. We are always hoping for new readers to join us.
